Practice Tips from Slash

To promote Slash's upcoming release of his new album Apocalyptic Love, there was a 6 part mini documentary done, highlighting the recording of the album.  Slash discusses how diligent he is about practicing guitar.  He talks about how he is still trying to improve his skills and that he doesn't put himself on any sort of pedestal that qualifies him not to practice.

For someone as iconic and accomplished as Slash to say that they still practice regularly should say something to the average guitar player.  If you really want the ability to play guitar and play it well, there is no magic pill, DVD, book or whatever that will make you better.  You need to put the guitar in your hands and practice your ass off.  It all comes down to how bad you want it.

Some of you are saying, “That isn't fair.  Slash is a professional guitar player and has more time than I do.”  FALSE.  We all have the same amount of time in a day.  It's what we choose to do with that time.  I'm not saying you need to quit your job so you can practice playing the guitar.  You can find 30 minutes a day though.  Shut the tv off, turn the interweb off, get up a little earlier, go to bed a bit later, whatever it is you need to do but the key is consistent, quality practice and you'll see your playing ability grow leaps an bounds.
